Cau Dat Farm is where sweet memories are made

Central Vietnam has many cultural and historical values through the centuries, many are still preserved and continued to this day. In the article, we will come to visit a special place in Dalat. That is Cau Dat Farm which has the oldest tea factory still operating in Southeast Asia.

Cau Dat Farm is located in Truong Tho hamlet, Xuan Truong commune which is about 25km from Dalat centerto southeast. The 230-hectare farm is located in a hilly area about 1650m from the sea level. It is not only a peaceful destination but also a place with great climate.

100-year-old tea brand

the old tea factory where machines were imported from Europe since the early 20th century.

Dalat was discovered in the late 19th century by Dr. Yersin (his full name is Alexandre Jean Emile Yersin) and French explorers. By 1927, the French found Cau Dat where extremly suitable for tea plants, so they expanded the area of tea hills to 600ha. During this time, the factory mainly produced black tea, the product was brought to France for consumption and exported to other countries in Europe. By 1960, the Vietnam War was increasingly tense that had forced the French to suspend economic activities in Da Lat. The Cau Dat tea farm then fell into the hands of Chinese merchants. Therefore, Cau Dat tea production has also been reduced.

After the Vietnam War, the tea farm was under the management of Lam Dong Province. Since 2015, the farm has been renamed Cau Dat Farm. This change not only preserves the famous tea brand but also helps visitors to have more experience in the beautiful farm.
