The world’s second largest coffee exporter
The coffee was first brought into Vietnam by the French (read more here) in 1857 and it very quickly became a popular drink here. It was like a miracle to arouse passion, to awake the power of the nation in the middle of the 20th century. By the mid-90s, when the Vietnamese government promoted a major coffee production program, Vietnam swiftly became the world’s second largest coffee exporter after Brazil.
Vietnamese coffee is often made by using filters. The coffee powder is compressed in the filter and boiling water is poured into it. The coffee then slowly drips down into a cup which contains a little condensed milk. The warm, aromatic and strong cup of coffee will then be ready for you to enjoy. Moreover, the roasting technique is special as well. Vietnamese coffee can be roasted with butter, strong alcohol or some other ingredients in order to flavor the coffee. It is not an exaggeration to say that the Vietnamese people have brought coffee to a new level.
Our popular
The Saigon coffee
It is usually served in highball glasses, with lots of ice and condensed milk. The Saigon coffee has become the symbol of Vietnamese coffee for many international travelers.
The egg coffee
Vietnamese egg coffee was born in 1946 when coffee addicts substituted egg for milk because of milk shortage due to the Indochina War. An egg yolk is whisked with condensed milk until it becomes like creamy milk used in the coffee. The egg coffee is fragrant, fatty not unlike a Tiramisu cake.
The coconut coffee
The coconut coffee is quite light and is unlike most types of Vietnamese coffee. It still retains the aromatic and fatty taste of coconut milk but doesn’t taste cloyingly sweet. This drink has only become popular in Vietnam in recent years. It is not only quickly received by the natives but also by many international travelers.
Apart from the more popular ones mentioned above, there are many other types of Vietnamese coffee such as the Weasel coffee, the White coffee and so on… All are waiting for you to enjoy in Vietnam.
